Course Overview

The Level 3 Applied Certificate and Diploma in Criminology is a qualification with elements of Psychology, Law and Sociology that complements studies in humanities but will be attractive and useful to a range of students.

The Certificate is equivalent in half an A Level and the diploma is equivalent in size to one A level.

The purpose of the Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Criminology is to provide learners with an introduction to criminal justice, to give a context for humanities learning and to use the qualification to support access to higher education degree courses.

General entry requirements for our Level 3 Vocational Qualifications include 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and/or Maths. For Criminology we are looking for applicants with a passion for law, the justice and leagal systems, public services.

We are an inclusive college and will consider all applications at interview.

This is an Applied General qualification. This means it is designed primarily to support learners progressing to university, however, will also equip leaners with transferrable skills for entry to higher level apprenticeships or employment.

It has been designed to offer exciting and interesting experiences that focus learning for 16-19-year-old learners and adult learners through applied learning, i.e. through the acquisition of knowledge and understanding in purposeful contexts linked to the criminal justice system.

The applied purpose will also allow learners to learn in such a way that they develop:
– skills required for independent learning and development
– a range of generic and transferable skills
– the ability to solve problems
– the skills of project-based research, development and presentation
– the fundamental ability to work alongside other professionals, in a professional environment
– the ability to apply learning in vocational contexts

Unit 4: Crime and Punishment

50% of the units are internally assessed through controlled assessments
50% of the units are assessed through external exams
You will take one controlled assessment and one exam in Year 12 (50% of the course) and one controlled assessment and one exam in Year 13 (50% of the course).
