The curriculum is centred around the following themes: Communication, Health and Wellbeing, Independence, Positive Relationships and Community and learners are provided with opportunities to achieve accredited English and maths qualifications at a level best suit for them.Learners are given opportunities to develop social awareness; using group classroom activities, accessing community facilities and external visits. The courses are current and support individuals to achieve a positive outcome at a low level, offering flexibility to respond to the individual needs of our learners.

What you will Learn

A flexible and inclusive course offer, designed in response to learners’ individual needs and requirements. The content is differentiated to provide maximum stretch and challenge, personal and social development, and progression opportunities for each individual learner. With a well-planned, collaborative approach to delivery by our specialist teachers and Learning Facilitators, we offer a supportive and positive experience for all our learners. Assessment

Learners are assessed in a variety of ways. We establish a learner’s starting point within their induction in our courses and create a tailored learning package in line with the Initial Assessment results. Assessment throughout the course is regular and appropriate; observations, completed written coursework, practical activities and presentations are utilised to assess the progression of our learners.

Progression

There is progression from our Entry 1 to Entry 2 courses, with the opportunity for learners to progress further to our Pre-Internship programme. Many of our learners then follow this route to our Supported Internship within Stepping Hill Hospital. Alternatively, we have an Entry Level 3 First Steps in Care Services and a Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Further Learning and Employment that learners can progress to.

Career Options

Our Level 1 and Level 2 Choices students have enjoyed working to a varied timetable including Workskills, Healthy Living, Community Access and Functional Skills. Learners follow a visual timetable to provide support and routine. With a range of work placements opportunities building employability skills preparing learners for the Supported Internship.
